Nebulizers

Nebulizer breaks up liquid drugs into tiny droplets forming mist which one can easily breathe into the lungs.

nebuilzerThere are two sorts of nubulizers:

Jet Nebulizer

This is an electrically powered device which works on compressed air or oxygen to be forced through the nozzle into the nebulizer chamber. Here the mist particles are formed from the drug solution and the tiny particles are inhaled whereas the larger droplets fall back into the nebulier chamber to be renebulised.

Ultrasonic Nebulizer

Here the small particles(spray formation) of the drug solution is formed by the ultrasonic waves. The advantage of these nebulizers are that they are silent when not being used which allows the drug not to be wasted even if the device is left on. It is triggered only when you breathe. Amongst the above two nebulizers, the jet nebulizer is more popular because of their ease of use and the cost effectiveness. Nebulizers are needed by a very small percentage of people with asthma. This percentage of asthma sufferers are the ones suffering from chronic asthma who require very high doses of the medication or the children who find it difficult to use any other kind of inhalers. The time required to use a nebulizer is about 10minutes. Since it needs to be plugged into a power point it may be difficult to move around unlike the case with the inhalers. It also has severe side effects if compared with the inhalers. Nebulizers should be purchased only after the advice and approval of your doctor.
