Food Allergy and Asthma
There are instances where certain kind of food triggers asthma. Such kind of asthma is known as food triggered asthma. It occurs very rarely and is seen only among 6-8% children with asthma and less than two percent of adults with asthma.
What are the food induced asthma agents?
Sulfites and sulfiting agents in foods which are found in dried fruits, prepared potatoes, wine, bottled lemon or lime juice, and shrimp and diagnosed food allergens like milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, wheat, fish, and shellfish have been found to trigger asthma. Food ingredients such as food dyes and colors, food preservatives like BHA and BHT, monosodium glutamate, aspartame, and nitrite, have not been conclusively linked to asthma.
How can we prevent food triggered asthma?
The best way to avoid food induced asthma is to eliminate the food or the food ingredients, which trigger the asthma from your diet. You should make it a practice to read the ingredient information on the food label and avoid the food, which may trigger asthma in you.
