Emergency Conditions

In case of any of the following asthma symptoms a doctor should be called immediately:

  • Cyanosis
  • Exhaustion, drowsiness after the asthma attack
  • Severe breathing difficulties
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Rapid pulse and breathing
  • Unable to stand or sit upright

    Symptoms in young children where a doctor needs to be called:

  • Unable to speak
  • Tongue, lips, fingernail turning blue
  • Flared nostrils
  • Hollows between the ribs
  • Fast pulse rate
  • Wheezing

    Facts to be mentioned to the doctor:

  • If any steroids were taken, what were they
  • If nebulizers have been used
  • If the drug theophylline has been used.

    These facts are known to the doctor so as to avoid overdosage of the medicines.
